System Awakening
by PageCrave Editorial
When the sky splits open and the System binds an occupation to every survivor, Jake Mercer draws the worst class in Aurora City: Quartermaster. Support. No sword arts, no fireballs, no rare drops, just a night guard's crowbar, a forklift, and a sudden, unbearable awareness of every crate in a thirty-thousand-square-foot warehouse.
The fighters call support classes dead weight. The Consortium, the corporate guild that owns the city's desperate, calls people like Jake collateral. Spendable. Renewable. Jake calls it something else, because on the night the world ended, looters hit his depot, and the man with the clipboard held the line.
He builds instead of brawling. A supply line that feeds a district. A forge run by his sister June. A clinic, a militia, a wall. And a partner: Dana Whitfield, a Blade Dancer whose own expedition sealed her inside a dungeon and left her for the monsters, courtesy of Consortium accounting. Together they clear the Threshold's first floor and win a Guild Token shard, proof that free people can own something the Consortium cannot simply take.
Elias Cross, the Consortium's founder, has been taking things for forty years. His expeditions go into dungeons and do not come out. His indentured workers sign contracts and become numbers. When a sealed file called Compensation surfaces, Jake finds the numbers: eleven thousand names, farmed into experience points while the city looked away.
So Cross declares a guild war. And the System answers with something worse than soldiers: the Radiant Spire, a tower of pale light in the city's heart. It is the Integration's own audit engine, awake, and it has come to repossess Aurora City by the letter of its contracts, block by block, street by street, following the paper. Every building it grays is a debt collected. Every pulse brings ledger close.
Jake's counterattack is the last move anyone expects from a war story: an audit. Starve the Spire. Climb the tower that feeds it. Take the Overlord's private ledger and read it in public until the arithmetic collapses and a machine built to own a city chokes on its own books.
AUDIT COMPLETE. AURORA CITY: SOLVENT.
But solvency is not safety. One year later, a new window opens onto Region Seven, where a second city, Coldwater, is being quietly bled insolvent by its own Weighmaster, Soraya Vane, a clerk who has kept two sets of books for forty years. To save both cities, Jake has to win a Balance trial before twenty thousand witnesses, out-read the best forger in the region, and meet the World Boss again, except this time it is a ledger wearing a body, and it does not come to fight. It comes to collect.
For a supply clerk with a System panel, a locked skill tree, and a city that has finally learned its own numbers, that is not a threat. That is an invitation.
System Awakening is a complete LitRPG saga of dungeon floors, guild wars, level-ups, and the deadliest weapon in a rebuilt world: a ledger that everyone is allowed to read.
