The World-Devouring Serpent
by PageCrave Editorial
Fang Yun was an ordinary high school student the day the Universe Adventurer System ended his life on the walk to school and woke him up as a grey snake no longer than a ruler, hidden in a nest of dead leaves on an Earth-like world called Blue Planet. The rules are simple and merciless: within the natural lifespan of a grey snake, he must earn ten million reputation points, or the system will erase him completely, body and soul.
What the system offers in exchange is the only gift that matters. Every creature he devours becomes bio-energy, and every full measure of bio-energy buys an evolution. A frog is worth a single point. A whale is worth thousands. From frogs to fish, from pythons to the armored horrors of the deep, Fang Yun eats his way up the food chain, each shedding bringing new length, new skills, and new appetites.
The world notices. Fishermen, whalers, navies, and eventually entire governments watch the Giant Sea Serpent grow from rumor into nightmare, and every panicked broadcast feeds him, because in this system fame itself is currency. While nations scramble to hunt the monster in their seas, the serpent haunts their forums under the name Ouroboros, cheerfully arguing with skeptics about whether sea monsters are real, and dropping hints that are far too accurate to be comfortable.
In the frozen north he finds one creature he would rather free than eat: the captured king of the giant turtles, a gentle colossus that the governments are bleeding dry for research. Freeing it wins him his first companion, a friendship measured in shared prey and sprayed seawater, and a partner whose hidden talents will one day carry them both far beyond any ocean.
When a space vortex tears open above the sea and humanity sails through it to a new world, Fang Yun follows at his own pace, and arrives to discover that the civilization on the other side has had eighty years to build legends about monsters like him. On this new planet he is an old myth made flesh. Hunters build careers on the sea-monster season, corporations grow rich on monster meat, and the serpent at the top of the food chain is a bedtime story that has come back to check on its audience.
Then he leaves the planet entirely. Between the stars, devouring becomes something vaster: asteroids, warships, planet-destroying battleships, and finally the fortified worlds of empires. The great powers of the galaxy file him under the only word they have for a creature that eats without limit, a pathogen, and when their fleets are eaten instead, their oldest scholars begin to whisper a worse one. Hunts are organized. Formations are drawn. Alliances that have never agreed on anything agree on him, and the serpent answers every one of them the same way, by growing.
The World-Devouring Serpent is the story of a boy who only wanted to go home and the snake who refused to stay prey: a saga of endless hunger, patient evolution, one very patient turtle, and a reputation value climbing toward a number even the system may not be ready to pay for.
