The Female Knight Returns
by PageCrave Editorial
Elena of house Blaise died on her knees in the hall of her family's killers, a sword she could no longer lift lying beside her. She had given her loyalty to the empire that knighted her, and the empire had answered with treachery. Then she opened her eyes in her own past — back in a younger body, surrounded by people not yet betrayed, carrying every memory of how the world ends.
This time she refuses to be a piece on anyone's board. The Ruford Empire still stands, but its cracks are already spreading, and Elena knows exactly where each one will split. Emperor Sullivan hides the illness that will kill him. Empress Ophelia smiles in public while planting poison in private, a drug meant to decide who may and may not bear the next imperial child. Second Prince Redfield courts the nobles for reasons of his own, and beyond the border Paveluc, head of the Blood Assassins, is sharpening a war meant to swallow the capital. Elena knows the names, the dates, and the disasters that can still be stopped.
Her first battlefield is the one written into her fate: a contract marriage to Crown Prince Carlisle, the man her past self learned to fear. The cold prince of her memories, however, is not what she finds. Behind his flawless manners he hides a curse of dragon blood that is slowly turning his body against him — black scales creeping over his skin, an orb-shaped bead that answers to something older than the throne, and a secret the imperial family would kill to keep. He is also the boy she once knew as Caril. She means to make sure that this time he does not die alone in a gilded cage.
So Elena goes to work. She rebuilds her house, shields the people her old self failed — her maid Sophie, her friend Mirabelle, and Kuhn, a slave with a blank face and lethal skill — and she steps into tournament rings, ballrooms full of enemies, and whispered plots she has already heard once. Every move pulls her two lives closer together, until the line between them all but disappears.
The road ends where it always ended: war with the Blood Assassins, and Paveluc at the center of it. To save the empire, Elena does what no duchess is expected to do — she walks into the assassins' stronghold herself, blade first, to cut the war off at its source.
Woven through all of it is a slow-burn romance between two people guarding dangerous secrets: alliance becoming trust, trust becoming devotion, and devotion tested by curses, courts, and crowns. Intimate moments fade to black; the tension never does. The Female Knight Returns is the story of a knight given a second campaign — duels, court intrigue, dragons that answer to royal blood, a power sleeping inside an orb, and a heroine who refuses to kneel twice. The past is coming for her again. This time, it should be afraid.
