I'm Really Not the Child of Destiny
by PageCrave Editorial
Shen Tian has transmigrated into a world of cultivation, and on paper he has hit the jackpot: he is now the thirteenth prince of the Country of Fire in the Eastern Wilderness. Then the fine print catches up with him. His mother, the beloved Concubine Lan, died the day he was born, and the King has never forgiven him for it. His prized Flaming Bird spirit pet drowned in the Imperial Garden. His rare Purple Epiphyllum was uprooted by a random brat. The Directorate of Imperial Academy collapsed on the one day he attended class. In a court that already shuns him, Prince Shen has become famous as the unluckiest man alive.
What nobody knows — least of all the courtiers who delight in his misfortune — is that his curse comes with a hidden clause. Shen Tian alone can see the halos above people's heads: colored auras that betray their karma and, better still, project images of the fortuitous opportunities waiting for them. A red glow around a palace eunuch's head once led him to a forgotten book of secrets, and a golden halo marks a Child of Destiny in the making. As for Shen Tian's own halo, black as mourning — whenever disaster slams into it, something extraordinary waits on the other side. Bad luck, he gradually realizes, is simply fortune that has not introduced itself yet.
Armed with that insight, and with a genius for talking people into harvesting their own opportunities while he quietly collects the overflow, Shen Tian walks out of the palace and into the wider world of sacred grounds, grotto-heavens, and ancient battlefields. He talks a heartbroken youth named Zhao Hao out of despair and into a destiny of his own. He earns the trust of Zhang Yunxi, the White Tiger-armored Saintess of the Divine Firmament Sacred Ground, and the awe of its lightning-obsessed disciples, who end up hailing their black-halo newcomer as their Saint — a fabled Son of Providence who stumbles into treasure by simply strolling around.
The title is not an empty one. From the God of War Pagoda to the North Sea, from the demon races of the deep to the tombs of ancient Thearchs, Shen Tian keeps converting calamity into harvest: forbidden lightning sutras, a Divine Sword Constitution that kills with a glare, the legendary Connate Chaotic Body, and friends who would die for him — a dragon maiden who retreats into an eggshell when trouble finds her, a Divine Peacock genius whose Rainbow Divine Light blinds the heavens, a mermaid princess who turns longing into song. Hot on his trail are powers that covet his luck or his head: the scheming Purple Mansion Sacred Leader, the blood-sacrificing Evil Spirit Sect, and vengeful spirits sealed for tens of thousands of years inside the Golden Crow Thearch's tomb.
Mocked as a jinx, treasured as a walking treasure vault, Shen Tian keeps refining the same answer to every heaven-sent calamity: find the fortune hiding inside the disaster, whiten that black halo one shade at a time, and leave the powers that wrote him off wondering whether destiny picked the wrong child after all.
