Killer Jeff and Me

MysteryComplete30 chapters

Your family is a perfect dollhouse, the kind the neighbors admire from the sidewalk. Behind the curtains, your mother drowns her rage in wine and takes it out on your skin, your father sells his affection to anyone with a pulse, and your brother trades his life away one high at a time. You stitch yourself back together in the bathroom and smile through dinner, because that is what dolls do.

Then your brother dies by his own hand, and something inside you finally snaps. You bury him in his own bedsheets, promise him revenge, and give your family exactly what it gave you. By morning you are a murderer on the run, and when two armed boys corner a stranger in the street, you discover you are very, very good at this.

That is the night Jeff the Killer finds you. Carved smile, burned-off eyelids, a reputation that keeps the whole internet awake, and he does not kill you. He takes you home instead: a mansion full of monsters, a place at the table from the faceless Slenderman, and a knife with a ribbon tied around the handle, because you have never been given a gift by anyone who loved you. Falling for a killer was never the plan. But between pool days, waffle wars, and killing sprees under the moonlight, the line between love and hate gets razor thin, and Jeff has never been good at staying on his side of it.

Then a night out ends with a stranger's voice arriving inside your ear instead of the room, and the fun is over. Connor, the stalker who died promising the water a broken thing, left behind a debt, and on this ground a debt does not die with the debtor. Under the pond on the north ridge waits the Auditor: a four-hundred-year-old clerk in a gray coat, with a green ledger, a brass scale, and a face nobody can remember. The scale has weighed your whole house and found the pans even. The water is owed. At the new moon, someone will speak at the shoreline, and whoever speaks, the water keeps.

Jeff speaks first, obviously. He is the brokenest thing the county ever produced, and he would rather drown than let you do the math.

So you do the math anyway. You bet the only currency the water cannot refuse: yourself. Double or nothing. Refuse every gift the pond shows you, and the books close forever. Take even one, and you stay. Down the drowned stair, the water plays fair and plays filthy: a warm kitchen, a woman laughing low, a chair with your name on it, and a whole Jeff with no scars at all, waiting for you to trade the real one in.

He would take that trade. You are not going to.

A dark, twisted romance about two broken people who choose each other on purpose, told with waffle grease, house rules, and a pond that picked a fight with the wrong family. The water started a ledger. You finish it.
