Fifty Shades of Storm Clouds

RomanceComplete32 chapters

Furtado De'lagado — Nuni to the people who love her — does hair by day, keeps her circle small, and carries her grief to her brother West's gravesite, where the dark clouds always seem to gather. West was shot down in a shootout the whole city has already forgotten. Her mother sits in a prison cell, charged with making their father disappear. And the money that keeps the lights on lands in Nuni's account every month, sent by a man everyone swears is dead. She has one rule for survival: stay away from that life.

Then her best friend drags her to a private kickback she should never have attended.

That is where she meets Jacob — fresh out of a two-year bid, all raspy voice, cold eyes, and a grin full of grills. He looks at her like he is reading a file, because he is. Jacob came home with a plan, and Nuni is the door to the man he has been hunting: her father, Ezekiel, the devil himself, back in town and snapping his fingers at half the city. What the plan does not account for is Nuni, who catches every lie, keeps receipts on everybody, and mourns harder than she ever lets anyone see.

One graveyard, one coming storm, and one question with no answer — who killed West? — pull them into each other's orbit. The pull between them burns slow and scorching: arguments that end standing too close, hands that almost touch, a loyalty that keeps getting tested by secrets on both sides. And when they finally give in, the bedroom door closes and the lights stay off. This is a fade-to-black romance — all the heat lives in the tension, and nothing explicit is ever put on the page.

But tenderness is a liability in this city. Her uncle runs a cartel and wants a crew he can trust, and he wants his niece to lead it, under a name nobody in that world can trace. Her mother comes home carrying a confession no family is ready to hear. A woman from Jacob's past keeps smiling at Nuni a little too sweetly. A friend everyone believed was buried turns up in photographs, walking. And the brother under the headstone may not be as gone as the whole city believes — because a case of Backwoods bought on a missing man's card does not smoke itself.

Nuni is done begging the world to be gentle. Armed with her grandmother's prayers, a hair-spray temper, and rules of her own — check your surroundings, trust nobody, shoot to kill — she goes from styling sew-ins to running men who answer to her, one impossible choice at a time, while the love she never asked for keeps growing in all the wrong directions.

Fifty Shades of Storm Clouds is a slow-burn urban romance about a woman built by loss and the man whose lies could finish the job. Expect family loyalty and family betrayal, cartels and courtrooms, holiday tables with empty chairs, and a love story simmering under every one of them. The tension is the point. The heartbreak is the tax. And when the storm finally breaks over all of them, nobody gets to stay dry.
