Gang Echoes
by PageCrave Editorial
Spin Reed has turned being overlooked into an art form. The quietest of five dramatic sisters, she prefers books to parties, silence to small talk, and the far corners of the garden where nobody asks her to perform. Her family calls her timid. Her therapists called it anxiety. Nobody, least of all Spin, expects her life to change in the space of a single rainstorm.
Then she finds a beaten man crawling across the lawn, blood and mud thinning in the rain, and makes one mistake of kindness: she drags him into the pool house, blankets him, and brings him food. The man is Cage Farina, a name the whole city lowers its voice for. He runs the territory with meticulous, ruthless precision, and he thanks her the only way he knows how- with a gun at the back of her head and an order not to turn around.
It should be the worst night of her life. Instead, it becomes the first page of a completely different one.
Cage has everything power can buy and no idea what to do with a woman who flinches at his world but refuses to flinch at him. Spin was supposed to be a loose end, quietly managed and forgotten. Instead she becomes the one person who looks the most feared man in the city in the eye and tells him no. Politely. Repeatedly. Nobody has ever told him no before, and he cannot stop thinking about it, or about her. It turns out to be the most dangerous word in the city.
When old rivalries make marriage the safest shield he can offer, Spin says yes- for her family's protection, for reasons that have nothing to do with the man behind the name, and for every reason she refuses to examine too closely. What begins as a contract on paper turns into shared breakfasts, exasperated tenderness, and a slow-burning tension neither of them is brave enough to name. Standing beside them is Polo, the loyal second who has decided his terrifying boss finally met his match, and a Reed family loud enough to drown out any gun battle. The longing burns hot; the doors close gently. What happens between them stays between them.
Because the past in Cage's world never stays buried. Old enemies climb back out of it, a trusted friend's envy curdles into betrayal, and Spin discovers that marrying the don was the easy part. Surviving what his name drags behind it is another matter entirely. Every family has ghosts. His are armed.
Now Cage must decide what a man built on control and fear will pay to keep one ordinary, extraordinary woman- and whether love is the one deal he cannot survive losing.
Gritty, tender, and threaded with dry humor, Gang Echoes is a slow-burn mafia romance about the lies families tell to stay safe, the quiet people who turn out to be the bravest in the room, and the echo of one small word- no- that refuses to stop rippling through two very different lives.
