My Eight Brothers

RomanceComplete30 chapters

Lily has been Red longer than she has been Lily. The file that raised her gave her a number, an orphanage hall bed, and one rule: want nothing, and nothing can be taken away. Then, one year ago, the impossible happened. Eight wealthy, ridiculous, fiercely protective brothers found her, and the girl nobody came for became the little sister the West family had been hunting for since the day she was stolen.

Now Lily is learning to live inside the noise. Her brothers argue over who sits beside her at dinner. There is a cat named Rose on her pillow, a best friend on speed dial, and a bedroom with a door that locks. For the first time in her life, wanting things does not feel like a crime. So she makes a list in careful handwriting: a house with a garden. Graduation. The ocean. To forgive herself. To be happy.

But the past in this family has teeth.

A long-lost oldest brother comes home carrying secrets. A guarded half-brother keeps the family at arm's length and his real self locked away. And Grandpa Aristole, proud and formal and kind twice a year, spent twenty-two years in prison for a murder he did not commit, to stop one terrible man from collecting his family like a debt. That man is dead now. His son is not. Ace grew up on the story that the Wests took everything, and in his arithmetic, Lily is the last entry in the ledger. The bill coming due.

He starts small. A stranger stands on the dune in the background of a family photograph. A note appears in her locker: You looked happy at the ocean. That ends soon. Then comes a Friday night trap at the beach house, where eight brothers, a stubborn old man, and a sister-in-law who refuses to run are waiting with every light in the house on.

Lily has survived worse than Ace. What she has never done is face her fear on her own terms, with her family beside her and the law instead of a grave. Her victim statement says the unsayable out loud: the boy who carried the knife was once a child nobody came for. So was she. The difference is nine people in a van, a stubborn old man, and luck.

While the courts do their arithmetic, life gets loud in the best way. Baley marries Diana, the woman who fell off a cliff to save her. A garden goes in by wheelbarrow, one argument at a time, with a bench facing east and a white rose planted for the mother Lily barely remembers. A magazine publishes the story she wrote in a hospital notebook, under the one name she decided to keep: Red. And a sealed envelope of sunflower seeds with a single word on it, ACE, waits in her drawer for the day mercy can finally be mailed.

My Eight Brothers is a story about the families we build, the debts we refuse to inherit, and a girl who wrote down what she wanted, then got all of it, and then some.

Come and see.
